Shaman's Star Party

  • Big Water Visitor center 20 Revolution Way Big Water, UT, 84741 United States (map)

For centuries, humans have relied on the stars for guidance. Celestial events determined travel, planting, ceremonies, and more. This knowledge was recorded on the landscape and now serves as a means of connecting us to the cultures of our past.

Join local astronomers in a journey to 1054 c.e. to witness a supernova once bright enough to be seen with the naked eye. It's presence was recorded on the rocks in Paria Canyon and now you can still see it through telescopes focused on the night sky.

Come to Big Water Visitor Center Friday, November 18, from 6-9pm and check out a number of fascinating celestial bodies. Learn more about the history of astronomy in the southwest. Discover a new passion. It's all free!
