WORKSHOPS
Explore the art of capturing a place through three hands-on workshops designed to help artists strengthen their creative process. From building strong compositions and understanding color relationships to developing practical skills for painting in the field, participants will learn how to translate the beauty, movement, and atmosphere of Glen Canyon into their own unique works of art.
2 pm - 3 pm | Framing the Canyon: Composition Before the Brush | Pera Club Tower Butte Room
Instructor: Amanda Whitman
How does learning to arrange what we see change what we choose to paint — and what we choose to notice? Composition is the art of choosing — of deciding what belongs in the story of a painting and what can be left out, so that what remains speaks clearly.
3:30 pm - 4:30 pm | Layers of Patience: A Watercolor 101 Workshop
Pera Club Tower Butte Room
Instructor: Amanda Charobee
In this beginner session, participants will learn the basics of how to paint with watercolor. From washes and layering to lifting and gradients, we will go over the techniques to bring your painting to life. Whether you are new to the medium or restarting a love affair, this workshop will provide a foundation for a love-hate relation that will last years!
5 pm - 6 pm | Red Rock Ready: A Glen Canyon Plein Air Warm-Up Workshop Pera Club Tower Butte Room
Instructor: Edmonia Martinez
In this indoor watercolor session, participants will learn how to sketch simply, identify light and shadow, work with a limited palette, paint from light to dark and adapt to outdoor conditions like wind and temperature changes. Perfect for beginners or anyone wanting a fresh, fast approach to plein-air painting.
