First Fridays

Founded in 2006 by Quechan/Hopi artist and toymaker Gregory Hill, HillTops combines art, culture, and education through the timeless tradition of handmade spinning tops. Based in Scottsdale, Arizona, HillTops is dedicated to preserving and revitalizing the art of play while sharing the joy of learning through hands-on experiences.

During this special cultural demonstration, follow along to learn how each spinning top is crafted entirely by hand from cottonwood driftwood using traditional hand tools, then finished with wood-burned details and hand-painted, non-toxic watercolor designs. HillTops artisan Gregory Hill will share the creative process, the cultural significance of the work, and the role that play has in learning, connection, and community. Suitable for all ages, this engaging program celebrates craftsmanship, storytelling, and the enduring power of play.
