Richard L. Dawavendewa is a Hopi artist from the Village of Moenkopi, Arizona, who has been creating art since childhood. Beginning with drawing and painting, Richard discovered printmaking in 1995 and developed a passion for relief printing, creating intricate designs by carving linoleum blocks and printing them with oil-based inks.

Largely self-taught, Richard refined his skills through high school art classes before earning an associate art degree and a BFA from Northern Arizona University. His work draws inspiration from his Hopi culture while also incorporating imagery from popular culture. Richard enjoys sharing the centuries-old tradition of printmaking through demonstrations and hopes to introduce more people to this unique and relatively uncommon art form.
